I have too much time on my hands:

states

We stopped off at the school's play area to try out their monkey bars (that they don't have) and ended up accidentally learning some stuff about our country instead. The first lesson was on what a state is and which one we live in.

Our first stop was Alaska (where we met):

Then I showed them how far away Aunt Melissa was when she moved away for a while:

And where Tim & Joe live:

And then we took a quick trip to Hawaii where it wasn't sweater weather on the last day of June... It was lovely.

monkey bars

On Wednesday, when I picked Andrew up from school, he told me he wanted to show me something. And just like that, he can do the monkey bars. All the way. He's very proud of himself and he loves it! He loves it so much he asked if he could start going to school every day so he could do them. : ) He's always liked school but he's never had any interest in going every day. This is big.

We have monkey bars on our play set at home although they're not as cool for a few reasons. The main ones being there are swings in the way and you can't get off once you get to the other end because it's blocked... We'll have to work on it.

we got our fireworks

... and took a quick spin around the track!

Andrew has been wanting to do this since the beginning of the month, and last night he finally got his chance. We decided it'd be fun to pick up our fireworks and let the boys play a bit at the little farmer's market near our house. Both boys loved it!

We have one of these things, but we always ride it in the grass, so it's not quite as fast (plus we only have one...LAME). After seeing how much fun they had here, we're going to try taking ours to the cul-de-sac and see how it goes.

2 minutes

Mason had his first official 2-minute timeout today. We've had him sit in the timeout area before, but this one was a full, set the timer, for real timeout. It's interesting how different it is with kid #2. Andrew doesn't get many timeouts, but he has enough that Mason has always known what 'timeout' means. There was no training needed like there was with Andrew. The second kid is so easy! (wink)

happy birthday, Mason!

We started the day with our traditional birthday breakfast.

Then we headed to the zoo to feed the giraffes! I love getting so close to them - their faces are huge! (The bigger one kind of freaked Mason out so I couldn't really get a picture).

I didn't want to pay to see the dinos again, but luckily you can peek your head in to take a look. Mason doesn't care for them at all. He was so nervous he actually had to cover his eyes.

And I quote:

"Dear lord, Andrew, what are you doing?"

"I can't watch" (hee hee - these pictures crack me up!)

I just had to throw these pictures on here because both boys loved these. They're animal pieces that you can mix and match to create whatever you think is cool.

And with that...Mason is officially two!

my little knight in shining armor

Andrew was invited to his friend Brooke's birthday party on Sunday. It was a whimsical party full of face painting, fairies, dragon hunting, magic wands and flying. The first step was to get dressed up. At first he chose the dragon costume but then decided on the knight in shining armor costume instead. It was an awesome party!

How cool are these clouds?! A little annoying that this is the sky in late June, but still cool! God must have known I hadn't done a good job planning for Matt's birthday so he helped me out by giving him a crazy rain storm to enjoy later that afternoon. : ) He loves them.

Oddly, Matt's birthday fell on June 24th again this year. Crazy...

Since the 24th was the day before Mason's party, there's a chance it wasn't the greatest birthday he's ever had. Luckily the Gamradts were able to come over on short notice for a BBQ and I was able to find him an awesome gift and help Andrew and Mason pick something out (Friday afternoon...). Overall, I'd say it was a good day. Sorry, no pictures of the birthday boy.

thing 2

Somehow Mason just celebrated his second birthday. Man, time flies!

We had green eggs and ham for lunch. (Thanks to Aunt Melissa for the delicious eggs!)

Mason got some great presents. It's tricky since he basically wants to do whatever Andrew is doing, but his friends & family got creative this year and he scored some really cool things that he's going to love!

Proof he's turning two... He even blew out his candles on his own this year.

We had a great time celebrating with friends and family today. It wasn't quite hot enough to pull out the pools, but it was warm enough to play and eat outside, thankfully. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us celebrating our little guy's big day. {I love birthdays!}

be impressed

My sister-in-law Melanie is the craftiest lady I know! Her latest hobby has been making cake pops. When I asked if she'd do something for Mason's birthday party, I pictured a batch of red and light blue pops that I would've loved and bragged about. Little did I know she had something way cooler in mind. SHE MADE THESE! And they're not only adorable, they're also delicious!
