I have too much time on my hands:

we have a tree!

Both boys had fun getting and decorating the tree this year. It seems like Mason might be enjoying all the activities more than Andrew. Andrew is having fun too, but his attention span has dwindled down to nothing while Mason thinks just about everything is rad - especially things that Andrew is doing.

park

We made a quick stop at the park the other day. Mason was loving it but it was making me and Lisa very nervous. In the end, he was fine but Andrew fell out of a tree. He was barely off the ground but ended with dirt in his mouth and up his nose and a little cut on his finger. He doesn't like getting hurt so he was instantly bummed out and told the tree he didn't like it...

garden lights

We went to the Bellevue Botanical Gardens again this year. It was not cool to drive home from Bellevue and turn right back around and drive to Bellevue, but it was cool to be able to visit the garden for free, so it was worth it. Mason really liked it, Andrew kept asking if we were done yet. In the end Andrew said he had fun and that all of the lights were his favorite. Who knows.

another good checkup

Andrew had his 4 year old checkup today. It was another successful visit. Mason is no longer crying just because we're in a doctor's office and Andrew did a great job of answering the doctor's questions. We also got off to a great start because there were no other people in the waiting area so they got to run around and play while we waited!

Andrew is still tall and he's still charming the nurses. :)

Height: 3' 6.5" (90%)

Weight: 45 lbs (95%)

The only bummer of our checkup were the shots. He shouldn't have needed any but we decided to get his flu shot as well as the upgraded PCV. I don't think he expected them to hurt and got pretty upset when they did.

happy birthday grandpa

Do they look tough enough to hang out with you on your Harley? :)

Hope you had a great birthday! (Sorry this is late)

food & one-on-one time

I had a couple days worth of pictures on my camera and I noticed a bit of a trend as I was downloading them tonight. We seem to like food. :)

I love this picture.

Yesterday I took Andrew to the mall to choose a kid from the angel tree to help out this Christmas. We had to do it online, so I had Andrew answer the lady's questions. He picked a 4 year old boy who wants a skateboard and skinny jeans. :) Done! On our way out, we stopped for Andrew's favorite treat - a soft pretzel with cheese.

Andrew doesn't love shopping, so after we were done at the mall I dropped him off at home and grabbed Mason (we like to tackle our chores with just one kid whenever possible). We ended up making it to three stores! It was awesome. And I even got to sneak in dinner at McDonalds!!

This has nothing to do with food, but it was cute. Without Andrew, Mason realized the back of the cart was open and got really excited to sit back there.

Tonight's activity was to make s'mores. I always forget just how tasty they are!

Santa Claus is coming to town

We witnessed Santa's arrival to Bothell today! It was cold, past Mason's bedtime, and a bit of a wait, but it was totally worth it! He flew in and landed just a few feet away from us. Andrew thought it was pretty cool, Mason cried (just for a bit when everyone started clapping). I'm looking forward to the days when we can be out later than 6:30. :)

those are some ugly sweaters

My friend Brooke had the brilliant idea to turn her dinner party into an ugly sweater party. I'd say we succeeded in the plan!

NOOOOO! Not the sweater! :) I guess it's not a good idea to drink wine from a martini glass after all.

Since it's Kristi's birthday on Monday, Ryean planned ahead for her favorite birthday treat - a donut tower cake.

Yep, this is cool as I thought it'd be...

I appreciated the detail of our sweaters - the designers even took time to make sure the back was awesome! So of course when I found this completely candid shot someone took, I had to share it. :)

Thanks for a fun night, Brooke! We'll have to do it again, maybe with a little less magic. :)

day 2

I didn't plan to put pictures up of every day's event, but if they keep being cute I just might have to. :)

Today's plan needed to be changed up a bit so I used an idea I saw and decided to let them decorate our slider door. They both had a lot of fun and Andrew did a great job of putting his penguin together (each piece is separate, even the eyes).

Side note: Matt's mom gave the boys these foam penguins to put together. Looks like penguins will be our winter theme this year - I do love them! I helped Mason out with his. I put the piece in the general area and let him push it down. When Andrew saw it he laughed and said "his looks a little different". :)

he's well

Mason had a good checkup today. Our doctor is not concerned with his growth rate at all, and for the most part he's back on track with his growth curve anyway. Yay!

Height: 2' 10" (95%)
Weight: 26 lbs (67%)

He had four shots (3 are follow ups of ones he's already had and 1 was his flu shot). Hopefully he'll wake up from his nap a happy kid!

Successful doctor visit, tip #1 - bring a DVD player! These trips are always so painful on Andrew (and therefore, on me). Matt had this great idea and it made all the difference.

Successful doctor visit, tip #2 - have snacks. I always bring snacks, but this time I actually packed a lunch! Of course, for the first time in a long time, we were only there for an hour so we didn't need it. It's Murphy's Law (or the opposite of Murphy's Law??), but I don't mind it as much when I'm over prepared.

Mason was so tired he couldn't even finish his string cheese, poor guy.

Andrew goes in for his 4 year old checkup on Tuesday.

it's a tradition

We're doing the advent chain again this year. It's our second annual activity-a-day countdown to Christmas!

Day one/24 days 'til Christmas: Candy Canes!

(I had my camera on the wrong setting, but I kind of like it because you can tell how excited Andrew was)

I didn't think Mason was quite ready for a candy cane. No problems though because he likes hot chocolate. A lot.

happy birthday, grandpa

We went to B'ham yesterday for my dad's birthday. First stop: The Bagelry!

Well, I guess the first stop was Top Pot. We stopped to get a couple donuts before we left.

Grandpa got a taste of Andrew's superhero craze. Anything can be turned into a superhero if it needs to. :)

Happy birthday, dad. Hope you enjoyed your birthday!
