I have too much time on my hands:

best day at the park. ever

Mason's naps usually take up our whole afternoon, so when he woke up early on Thursday (possibly the last beautiful day of fall) we packed up and headed to the park!

The first thing the boys did was take off their coats (I had no idea it was so warm - they were bundled in their winter coats and gloves!).

These posts were so much fun. They were both cracking up, running from one to another, chasing each other and peeking through.

And it was seriously the most beautiful day ever at a very beautiful park:

what a goofball

it's about that time...

Every year before the boys' birthdays there are noticeable changes. It surprises me every time just how close it comes to their actual birthday.

Andrew has been really into puzzles the last few days. The thing that has changed is that he thinks of doing a puzzle on his own, rather than it being my suggestion, and he does them without pretending he needs help. The really exciting thing for me is that he pulled out his alphabet train puzzle and he did all the way through "I" by recognizing the letters rather than finding the next puzzle piece that fit. I know it's from our little school time because we are, conveniently, on the letter I this week!!

Another thing he did that shocked me this week was when he decided to get our cereal for us. I was drying my hair and he came in to let me know breakfast was ready. : ) He had only poured the milk in his and then we we sat down he poured ours for us. He told me that if Mason doesn't eat all of his, it's probably because he went a little too fast and poured more than he needed. He's growing up right before my eyes...

after

My friend Lisa accidentally saw our (not visitor ready) bedroom because Cam had an emergency and needed to use our bathroom. Our room gets cleaned up every couple-ish weeks and then is a mess within a few days. Basically, I'm great at doing our laundry but horrible at putting it away and it's a vicious cycle for me. Anyway, Lisa got inspired to help me get organized so she came back that same night that she saw the disaster zone and we got to work. I forgot to take a 'before' picture, but I'm not sure I would've shared it anyway, so no big deal.

Here's the after:

The 'before' closet had baskets on the floor that were moved up to the shelf after I realized I could put away about 75% of the stuff because it was either seasonal or the wrong size. I also now have 3 bags of clothes to donate and an empty storage box that I have yet to decide what to do with. I also wasn't using the hanging shelf (it was the other direction as sort of a divider between our closets). And some other stuff may have found its way in there as well that needed to find a different home.

The bummer with all of this is I now see how many clothes I actually wear and that I only love about 3 things... Oh well, now I know.

Thanks Lisa! You should do this for a living. : )

he loves the dentist

Andrew got really excited when he found out he had a dentist appointment last week. He started talking about the toy box and his favorite part about getting his teeth cleaned (the sprayer because it tickles). Then he remembered the suction thing they use and started to laugh. He loves the dentist - it's fantastic!

For the next checkup I also scheduled Mason's first appointment. The place we go is over-the-top kid friendly, it's great. They let Mason get close so he could watch and then asked if I wanted to let him have a ride in the chair so he could see how it is. He wasn't real sure about it but he ended up giving me a smile. Hopefully Andrew's love of the dentist will rub off on him. I'll hold out hope!

trains!

I updated my header to show off a couple of the fun family pictures my friend Amaryllis took of us at the train station. She's amazing. I'm even more convinced after seeing what she got, knowing what she had to work with...

I love them all!!

buddies

These boys have so much fun together, I love it.

I think they need a clubhouse. : )

Andrew and Cameron really wanted some time to play on their own today, but it just wasn't happening (as you can see in the above pictures). At least they all get along, so it wasn't too big of a deal.

sweet, rad dreams my boys...

toy story 3 on ice

On Saturday, a group of us went to Toy Story 3 on Ice. It was very cool - Disney knows what they're doing!

Before the show: (all the kids were pretty excited, including Mason)

During the show: (Andrew was hooked, Mason started to cry)

We stood in the isle and watched for a while. Then he asked to leave the arena area. Here we are checking out the souvenir booth instead of the show.

Andrew still enjoying the show (and his $10 lemonade...).

Mason finally warmed up to the show and even sat in his own seat for a while.

Here's a little snapshot of the fun show.

After the show, we headed to our place for some pizza. My camera was on a weird setting so I didn't get any good pictures, but here's one to show all the kiddos (minus Rysen who didn't make it for dinner and Mayli who wasn't interested in our photo shoot).

AJ

It's hard to believe it has been 10 years since AJ's accident. Death does a weird thing to time, I think. In one part of my brain, it feels like it just happened and in another it feels like so long ago. It feels the longest when I remember that he never got the chance to meet Andrew. I think the part that makes it feel like it just happened comes from the fact that my memories have him at 19 and that doesn't match up with 10 years passing.

As our boys get older, this date in particular seems to get harder for me. Partially because I know he would've loved the heck out of them, and them him, but also because one of the last conversations I remember is him telling me that he'd have all the fun toys for our kids to use and that they'd love going to his place because he'd let them do the things I wouldn't. I want that. And it makes me sad that we don't get that.

I am very thankful that I got to know him and that he was able to be in our wedding. And that we chose to have our first Christmas as a married couple with the Dyk family. The memories from that Christmas will always make me smile.

good friends, good food

This post is brought to you by Pioneer Woman. No, she's not paying me, but I am in love with her and am happy to send you her way if you're looking for some delicious, easy-enough, recipes.

Kristi let me borrow her cookbook and I ended up loving everything I made from it. It seemed like the only way she was going to get the cookbook back was if she came over and got it. : ) So it was only right to invite them over to try one of the delicious recipes and let her leave with the cookbook... I made her shrimp penne with a tomato cream sauce, in case you were wondering.

This is the only evidence that we had friends over last night, but I think it's more than enough cuteness to do the trick.

It was a great night with great friends. And like I always seem to say after a night like this, we really need to do them more often!!

I am thankful for: my small digital camera

We had fun playing in the leaves today. I think Mason liked it a little more than Andrew since he isn't as concerned about getting dirty/wet, but they both seemed to think it was pretty cool.

I love having my camera handy at all times. I love catching all the random (rad) stuff my boys do.

Yay for hot cocoa in red cups!

Andrew picked out these rad slippers today. They made me laugh all day, but this setup was the best.

g is for glitter

Glitter is so fantastic - for whatever reason, it is a guaranteed fun time anytime I pull it out. Look at that smile.

{that's a ghost with green glitter and googly eyes...in case you missed that}

Then he realized glitter could be pixie dust and asked if he could use it.

And now he can fly. : )

happy halloween

The Ryan's had their 5th (I think) annual Halloween party last night. It was a blast and the kids were as cute as ever!

Batman and Robin.

We didn't spend any money on costumes this year thanks to Kai handing down his costume from last year and grandma seeing into the future and getting Andrew a superhero dress up pack that included Robin! Maybe that's why I think they're extra cute this year!

Andrew asked me to take his picture. Done.

Here they are admiring their loot this morning. Mason got a toothbrush (I've always heard of people doing that but we've never actually seen it). It was packaged with a couple York peppermint patties, so I'd say he scored!

Thanks for hosting another fun night out! And for being awesome. : )
